DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY’RE HIDING IN THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR?

From the author of the massive bestseller CLOSE TO HOME, comes the second pulse-pounding DI Fawley crime thriller.

A woman and child are found locked in a basement room, barely alive.

No one knows who they are – the woman can’t speak, and there are no missing persons reports that match their profile. The elderly man who owns the house claims he has never seen them before.

The inhabitants of the quiet Oxford street are in shock. How could this happen right under their noses? But DI Adam Fawley knows that nothing is impossible.

And that no one is as innocent as they seem.

Extract-In-The-Dark-Cara-Hunter

Really enjoyed this one; which actually surprised me because initially upon first embarking on “In The Dark” I found it a bit of a chore to get into.
In retrospect, I think it was the many POV’s that I had teething issues with, I just found it a tad difficult to separate the many characters perspectives.
Losing my way slightly and getting turned around on who was who and also whose head we were inhabiting at any given time.
It was just slightly tedious initially keeping everyone separate and straight.
So glad I persevered though as when things finally started to click into place for me “In The Dark” was pure magic.
I’m not usually one for reading crime/police drama; watching it on the old screen Yes (I love Vera, Inspector Frost and the like) reading it; not so much, but made an exception for this as it had such an intriguing premise behind it that really captured my attention.
A girl and her child imprisoned in a basement, the disappearance of a young mother that has confounded the local authorities for the last few years, having all the hallmarks of a cold case.
All connected in some form and just waiting for D.I. Fawley and his team to crack wide open.
There were so many twists and unexpected curveballs thrown here that I was in danger of getting whiplash.
I did kinda guess some of the answers here but many others were still a complete mystery.
This was so well done and so intricately woven that I was seriously super impressed.
I thought an especially great touch was the inclusion of all the officer’s everyday mundane lives.
I really appreciated this aspect of “In The Dark” and felt it really brought a human touch to the whole proceedings.
Having a window into the ordinary really gave me a sense of comradery.
Ultimately forging a much stronger individual connection with all the cast.
This was one of the better police/Crime dramas I have experienced.
In conclusion, this was a fast-paced mystery drama that I am happy to give a thumbs up to.
Thank you to Penguin and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of “In The Dark (DI Adam Fawley, #2)” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an enjoyable read that for me was slightly swings and roundabouts in nature.
There were some things here that I loved; while others not so much.
It had an extremely unique style of narration using four separate POV’s rather than the more common one or two and rather than concentrating on just one individual couple here we get the added bonus of two; who each seem to share the spotlight equally.
This was a very unique concept that I haven’t seen used that often.
A two-fer if you will.
The style of storytelling used here I initially found a trifle confusing, it did eventually start to grow on me and while I did feel a tad more connected to Sven and Rose, as the story unfolded Boss and Lacy also started to dig deeper and start to burrow beneath my skin.
So why not a higher star rating?
Well, I did struggle somewhat with the brutality depicted here and my final rating does reflect this slightly.
I do like my dark fiction but for some reason here I had issues wrapping my head around Boss’s actions towards Lacy; his complete disconnect to Lacy as a fellow human being and his single-minded focus on his own personal goals at the expense of Lacy was really difficult to comprehend or even understand.
It wasn’t even that the abuse happened, after all, I went into this with my eyes wide open.
Its that It came at the hands of the man who is essentially her future heart.
And yes I have read this type of thing before in my dark fiction its just Boss seemed to take it to a whole new level of extreme that shocked even me.
This was hardcore abuse that I found difficult to process and I just couldn’t find it in my heart to forgive him for his incomprehensible actions towards Lacey.
He essentially broke her which I found unforgivable.
And no it doesn’t give you a free pass if someone else is inflicted your orders.
There carrying out your wishes so your still ultimately responsible.
In some ways, it’s worse.
I found Sven and Rose while initially starting this a much more likeable proposition.
He even internalises that he couldn’t treat Rose this way.
I also should mention this ends on a cliffhanger which whilst not bothering me just thought I’d pre-warn you.
I think the next Installment is already out anyway.
At its essence “Roses and Thorns” is an interesting dark read that really pushed my boundaries far past what I was comfortable with.
This can be good or bad depending on your perception and mindset as sometimes we need to experience things outside of our compact little boxes.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be continuing on here as I’m afraid I definitely reached my hard limit with the treatment of Lacy.
I’m not going to recommend this, either way, it all depends on your own personal dark barometer.
Just be aware going in that this is rather upsetting in places.

Well Well Well, this one was quite the little gem; so wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did.
I don’t actually read much romantic suspense as it’s not my favourite genre but so glad I gave “Escape With Me” a chance.
So this was my first book by this particular author but it certainly won’t be my last.
Told in dual POV with a from the get-go interesting premise this managed to hook my attention instantly.
Such an easy fast paced suspensful read; which was a hot as it was tense.
“Escape With Me” managed to portray just the right amount of balance between plotline and romance.
The story centres around Jody and Jason.
Jody is in the city to investigate her sister’s disappearance from the exclusive escort club “Escape”.
obtaining a job in the office under false pretences mainly so she can dig deeper into the mystery at hand; it’s not long before she realises she’s in a lot deeper than she can safely handle.
Jason is a pro football player and when he mistakes Jody for his booked Escort Vixen sparks do ignite.
But with a barrel of baggage left behind by his greedy Ex, the road to true love with these two was never going to be easy.
With dodgy happenings about and things heating up on the streets as well as between the sheets, Jason pairs up with Jody to assist her in her search and also help keep her safe; while still trying to protect his own heart in the process.
So this was a great read that was action packed throughout; the characters involved here were both likeable and believable.
The side-cast was also fantastic adding an extra layer to the proceedings and just when I thought I had all the answers I quickly realised that was not actually the case at all.
Some stuff I did guess but other bits completely shocked my socks off.
This was by no means predictable and definitely kept me guessing.
this would have been a full house from me but unfortunately, I disliked the ending; I thought Jason got off much too lightly and Jody should really have made the lad squirm.
I also didn’t like how he didn’t come to Jody’s defence against his manager, that well annoyed me.
And finally how much importance he gave to his crappy biotch of an Ex letting her actions impact his life with a girl who had never been anything but lovely to him.
That peed me off the most if I’m being honest here.
But despite the above, the rest of this was grand for me and a fantastic read.
This is such a fabulous addition to its genre that I’m happy to give a thumbs up to.

For the day his reign stretches into the human world, all things good will come to an end.

I really enjoyed this like so much from the second I picked this up I was invested and enthralled.
“Bewitching Sloth” is a fantastic start to an imaginative new paranormal series that focus on the seven sins.
These sins have been bestowed on the children of the Grim Reaper.
Seven siblings each carrying an individual stain gifted by the devil himself.
This first instalment we join Isabella Wen; a powerful witch who just happens to be on the run from an evil entity and Sebastian Reaper oldest son and keeper of Sloth.
From the onset here we are flung right into the action, in fact, this was manic form the first page.
With incredible one-liners, fantastic world building and incredible humour, this book delivers on all fronts.
Overall this was such an easy read with extremely likeable characters and as an added bonus the side cast was also exceptionally intriguing also; I can honestly say Im looking forward to each and every story that was hinted at here.
“Bewitching Sloth” set the stage here so nicely for the unfolding drama and I am already its avid audience.
I really can’t wait to see what this series is going to bring to the table.
This one’s a no-brainer for me; Read it, you definitely won’t be disappointed; I guarantee you this.
Five very well deserved Stars.

I wanted a family with Cash.

We had dreams –building a house, kids, a dog, and, yes, even the white picket fence.

Or so I’m told.

I don’t remember anything about my husband. Not the wedding or the vows we shared.

The past ten years were erased, but with time, they’re supposed to come back.

But what if this isn’t your typical case of amnesia?

What if I’m not supposed to remember?

What if I was meant to forget?

Maybe I don’t want my old life back.

Because if the accident hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have uncovered the truth.

Losing my memory wasn’t tragic.

Losing my memory was fate.

I Really enjoyed this one like a lot, but I am struggling slightly to classify it as it crosses over into genres with a little bit of everything.
So this had such a unique voice when it came to its narration giving us the POV from three individual important players; this, in turn, helped portray them all so realistically with flaws and all.
I found this style of narration so intriguing and it did help me get a handle on why certain individuals behaved they way they did and all through certain actions were in no way condonable it did give me a certain insight and almost unwanted sympathy into why things occurred the way they did.
Human emotions can make us behave in such unfathomable ways that are just beyond our comprehension sometimes.
This is essentially at its heart a mystery with romantic elements and how one woman’s memory loss can impact and steamroll into so much more.
When events started to slowly come to light I felt so much empathy for Meadow and completely understood how she had managed to spiral so out of control in her distress and confusion.
Her memory loss having an almost snowball effect so far did the cause and effect ripple outwards.
Her husband Cash I could also empathise with and I could understand somewhat how he had arrived at the crossroads he had.
I also felt extreme empathy for him as he tried to traverse the daily battlefield that is now his marriage.
Meadow was an absolute nightmare for him to live with as she fell deeper into the bottomless pit that was her despair and utter desperation; using Cash almost as her own personal whipping boy.
This story also dealt with alcohol addiction and the debilitating impacts this dependence can have on the people surrounding us.
I didn’t really think anyone in this story was truly innocent except maybe Logan all else portrayed were imperfect and flawed in some way or other.
But what I did ultimately take away from this, was there were no baddies and goodies here just misguided actions that though essentially wrong were actually done initially for all the right reasons.
And I essentially wanted everyone involved to find some sort of personal HEA regardless of there misguided and imprudent undertakings.
I adored that “Until we are gone” gave everyone a piece of that pie.
This is one story that I was glued to throughout and enjoyed immensely.

The Darkness In Faith(1)

🌹BOOK REVIEW🌹

Release Date-2nd May 2018
Genre-Erotic Horror
Kindle Edition-381 Pages

Book 1: My name is Faith: Tortured sex slave turned brutal murderer. Men have abused my body for inhuman pleasures, hurt me and made me feel helpless. But now…

They fear me. I wish I could say that it is all for the good of the world that I kill them slowly and give them a taste of what they have made others feel, but that would be a lie. Turns out, I have a lust for blood and get off on making THEM my slave. They may be way past being offended at that point, but I sure enjoy my living dead boys.

Just one small problem. I am falling for my newest conquest and don’t know anymore if I want to tie him up and kill him slowly. He supposedly sexually assaulted a woman horribly ten years ago and is currently on parole for the crime, but something about those genuine sea green eyes and that beguiling mouth makes me weak. I still want to tie him up but what I want to do to him- will make us both scream.

Something about his darkness and pain calls to my own, and he knows I could kill him at any time, but still fights to possess me in every dripping, consuming and tantalizing way.

Come inside if you dare where real sex slave stories are my inspiration and I’ll tell you the story of a serial murderess and the life altering events that made her a Lover of the Dead.

Book 2: How can I admit to myself that I have fallen for the one thing I fear the most? I should kill him, as I have visited bloody death on many others just like him but…

Instead I have let him inside me. Deeply, painfully and with all-consuming psychotic passion. My body hums when he hurts it, as he’s brought out a hidden side of me that thrives off his rough touch. I have never felt so alive.

Here he is by my side as we travel the country, staying in the finest hotels and savagely getting revenge on those who have sexually tortured me. What a ride. Kill, rough sex. Try to kill each other, more rough sex… And repeat.

But something changes my dark lover with each kill and I fear I will lose him forever. The blood thirsty beast he struggles to keep locked up within thrashes against its cage, and I don’t know how much time we have left together. Oh, but I WILL make the most of it.

Book 3: My enemy becomes my lover…

“Please let me go,” I say.
He takes a deep breath. “I can’t. Why don’t you see that you are meant for me? You’re a killer, you’re a sexual predator, and my dark soul demands I take yours. I need to **** your body mercilessly and make you scream from beneath me. I have no choice because I’ve never wanted anything so bad.”
His lips move to ear. “Say you want me, Faith.” He sucks my neck into his mouth and the ache feels good. He leaves bruises. “I will do anything.”
I cringe and stare into nothingness. This is my way out. If he has become obsessed with me because I escaped him years ago, because his best friend wants me, and because I challenge him, then I can use it to escape. I refocus and allow my demoness to take hold. “I shouldn’t want you James.”
He moves inside me, lifting me up and forcing me back down over his thickness and I cry out. “But you do,” he breathes.
I won’t make it that easy. “You excite me. You make my body sing and scream at the same time.” His **** rubs through me igniting incredible sensations and I haven’t lied to him yet. “I want you,” I say breathlessly. He feels so good because this is so bad and my sanity is being pushed to the limit. I run my fingers across the shaved sides of his head and rip his blond hair backward. I ride him hard. “You’re beautiful,” I say, trying to breathe. “Because you tear me to pieces.”
He grasps my hips, the killer who has never gotten off without hurting a woman first, and digs his fingers into my flesh. With a desperate kiss, his eyes roll back and his body tenses in anticipation.

REVIEW COPY
Serial Murderess Series

so I’m going to do things a bit different here and review all three books in the Serial Murderess Series together but giving my brief impression on each instalment.
So I’m not normally one for trigger warnings but with this, you need one; this is dark depraved sick stuff proceed with caution.
If like me that sentence is like honey to a bee just be aware that at times this was even a bit too much for me and that’s something I don’t usually say.
There is Rape, murder, torture, necrophilia, cannibalism the list goes on and on so please do take my warning seriously there is the blackest stuff imaginable between these pages.
So this is a hard one, on the one hand, I love to push the boundaries of my tolerances, but here I wasn’t just giving them a nudge I was flat out annihilating and totally flattening everything in its path.
So If you want to just dip your toe into darker waters this isn’t the series to start with; this is completely hardcore.
This series is mainly told from the POV of Faith herself a product of her horrific life experiences in her case a history of rape, torture and slavery.
This girl has some serious issues which have resulted in her fascination with blood and death.
She’s a self-made serial killer who preys on the predators themselves.
Her moral compass is so off course when it comes to dispensing her own personal brand of justice.
So what happens when this necrophilia loving serial killer meets what could be her match made in heaven.
I’m gonna stop you right there; this is not a romance; this is so far from the warm and fuzzies than your ever going to get; Brandon the male interest here, is so not what I would even label; what we like to call an anti-hero.
This is more a psychotic bloody Bonnie and Clyde type journey cross country where Faith and Brandon embark on an all-out pilgrimage to annihilate every person that has ever hurt Faith in the most imaginative ways possible.
The go-to phrase these two start to employ.

This is going to be the most fun we’ve had yet

But this is also a downward spiral into the Pitts of insanity and what happens when you give your demons such a free rein.

The Darkness in Faith
is the onset of the journey where we learn what shapes our two lovers into the individuals they have evolved into.
This is perhaps the mildest of the three books almost a build up to more gruesome events.
It’s still bloody graphic as hell though so be prepared for anything.
In This instalment, we leave Brandon and Faith ready for there mission ahead.

Darkly Dreaming Faith
Portrays there antics as each kill goes down more each imaginative than the last.
Brandon and Faith fall deeper down the rabbit hole with each occurrence sending Brandon on a downward spiral into insanity.
In fact, here it becomes very apparent that Brandon is so much more than he has previously revealed to his new partner in death.
Finally culminating in Faith through self-preservation contemplating going rogue on his butt.

Vicious Faith
The final book in the trilogy and perhaps the most graphic and depraved of all three.
Here all roads come to a head and number five on Faiths list “Gas Mask” in dramatic style manages to turn the tables on Faith.
This was my favourite of the three books and though there where things I had kinda guessed previously here; there were still many shocks that snuck up and caught me unawares.
I adored the shocking conclusion we were given here.
It had an almost karmic justice to it.
Here is where we discover that there are no heroes only predators and events do come full circle in such a shocking finale.

This is not a romance.
There are no heroes in this trilogy only innocents and evil.
This was not easy reading at times but I persevered as I wanted to know the final outcome.
My rating here really reflects my unease with the content matter involved.
“The serial Murderess series” itself really pushed the envelope with me in regards to my comfort levels.
It’s an unapologetic jaunt through a dissolute and perverted playground.
Where everything good and wholesome has been stripped back to the bone and the only thing left behind is viciousness and cruelty.
Enter if you dare but be warned the passage your about to traverse is anything but pretty.
The road ahead of you is paved in blood and tears.
I’m not going to give this a yay or a nay just a give this a go if you think you can handle it and prepare to be appaled.
And again remember my original caution.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “Serial Murderess Series” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

ARC BOOK REVIEW
release Date-26/7/18

The Hawks was my first experience with this particular author and it was a mostly positive endeavour for me.
This was a well thought out intriguing read packed with suspensful romance and thrilling action.
It had a fantastic twist that I never saw on the horizon and though I did have some slight issues here this for me was still extremely enjoyable and I would certainly recommend this if you’re looking for something to get your blood pumping.
So as I said swings and roundabouts; while I really liked the way this was narrated in present time and flashbacks I felt that without this style of storytelling this could have felt a bit flat.
The build-up to the main course was a bit lengthy in my opinion and could have done with a bit of pruning.
This was a long book and it really felt it would have delivered itself better shortened slightly; maybe it’s just me but I did zone out slightly on some occasions.
I also would have prefered this to be dual POV as I felt that I didn’t really get to know Javier that well and as such he felt slightly one-dimensional at times.
Which was a shame as he seemed a real decent bloke; perhaps maybe a bit cookie-cutter perfect at times; but still, I would definitely have liked to delve deeper here.
I really enjoyed the portrayal of Sarina’s boss Delsey Hawthorn; her eccentricities made such compelling reading and kept thing interesting.
I know she was a massive opinionated pain in the derriere but the old girl had some good qualities also, hidden really deep that is, she wasn’t completely bad.
I also really adored Cole and thought Sarina was a bloody major cow to him.
I couldn’t quite work out what her deal was here she was an utter cow-bag to the poor bloke.
In fact, if I’m honest I found it hard to relate or even like Sarina at times, she came across as completely, self-centred and materialistic.
That is my main reason for marking this down slightly my compulsion to strangle some sense into the girl throughout.
Despite the above, I still found this compelling reading and that finale completely knocked it out of the park.
This was a good read that I had some slight nitpicks with; still very happy to recommend this if you like a bit of action with your romance.
On a side-note, I want Cole’s story as I think he got such a raw deal here but please let’s have a girl who appreciates him for the unpolished gem that he is; I would so read his story.

But it never came.

Scared.

Alone.

Then it happened…

That little piece of hope finally broke through—creating the release I so desperately needed— and gave me a reason for living.

The night I met a stranger in the dark, he consumed me like no other. He gave me hope, and, even though I still felt the need to run, I can’t—not from him.

However, like everything in my life, it all seems too good to be true, because fate isn’t on my side. It never has been.

“Saved By You (The Spring Rose Bay Series, #3)” is the first book I have read by this particular author and know part of an ongoing series and third in the Spring Rose Bay series this can totally, in my opinion, be read as a standalone.
The story here centres around Victoria and Lucas each with there own set of personal demons they are struggling to overcome.
Almost instantly upon meeting; these two lost souls soon discover that they are each other’s safe sanctuary to shelter from the dark demons that plague their inner psyches.
Each finding in the other an almost serenity within, a calming from there internal storms if you will.
So I did find myself really enjoying this story.
Although these two do fall for each other extremely fast it didn’t bother me like it usually does.
The insta-feelings seemed to actually fit and with the contrasting internal turmoil being an added contender here it just didn’t feel forced at all.
This was told in dual POV and also had the extra bonus of a fantastic side cast of previous characters all interconnected but also able to function independently; so there was no need for previous exposure to this series.
Though it probably would add to your overall enjoyment it’s definitely not essential here.
I especially adored the inclusion of Tori’s son Charlie.
The dynamic between mother and son was so special to behold, he was her original saviour here; compelling her to evolve into a much better version of herself.
It was all about Charlie for Victoria she was so much stronger when it came to fighting for her son rather than just herself.
Throw Lucas into the mix and well; it was just so lovely to observe the new family dynamic slowly emerging and morphing into another life chapter entirely.
I loved the fact that these two were flawed and imperfect and though “Saved by you” was so heartbreakingly poignant at times this also equally made me smile from ear to ear.
Lucas humour was contagious and the sex here; hot as Hades itself.
These two have some real chemistry together.
There is a dash of everything here and it really is an enjoyable read that I’m happy to recommend.
A lovely romantic interlude that left me feeling warm and fuzzy overall.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “Saved By You (The Spring Rose Bay Series, #3)” of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions are entirely my own.

The fork in the road in front of me screamed go right …

Giano gave me life.
I gave him death.

The path to peace inside of me was covered in his blood.

Could I ever believe in love again?

Instead of going right, though, I veered left into the depths of a world unknown.

*This is a romantic thriller and is best read after Stay (Love in the Dark 1). Due to triggers and graphic violence, it is not recommended for readers under the age of 18.*

So this is the second book in the Love in the Dark series and while I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as its predecessor it still certainly packed a massive punch leaving me reeling with that cliffhanger finale.
This carries on almost instantly after the events of “Stay” and after the shocking finale we were given there understandably Fallyn/Angelina is deep down in a hole of darkness and despair with a life-altering desition straight ahead of her.
Does she reclaim her old life or follow Her Strangers wishes embracing her identity as Angelina.
With the help of her Uncle Zo-Zo Angelina embarks on a whole new pathway leaving her old life behind for fresh new shores and college living.
At first, struggling and feeling adrift without her Giano; Angelina struggles against the tide with feelings of loneliness and isolation almost adrift without a familiar anchor.
But there is one bright spot on the near horizon her new college professor Shawn Patrick and due to the forbidden aspect of there relationship these two start a slow build friendship that eventually culminates in so much more.
She feels an almost instant connection to him and with the parallels of there upbringings.
Shawn himself has walked away from his father’s criminal lifestyle forging his own path ahead as a history professor.
And though Angelina is still knee deep in secrets and lies she falls hard and fast.
So as I said earlier I really enjoyed this; it was dialled back a notch from the previous book concentrating much more on the budding friendship emerging and also Angelinas growing rebirth of healing.
Told again from our girls POV; so you really do get a sense of where her heads at after previous fallout.
“Seeking Solace” does a great job of lulling you into a false sense of security and just when you think maybe out girl is finally due for some overdue peace and happiness; it strikes, like a snake injecting its venom; re-contaminated everything and dragging Angelina back into that world she has so desperately tried to leave far behind in her dust.
That ending; what a shocker that was, like seriously.
So I am so looking forward to the next instalment here and I’m hoping maybe there’s a big pot of karma at the end of the rainbow of ruins that seems to be Angelina’s recurring nightmare.
The poor girl so needs to catch a break.
I for one will be waiting with bated breath for the anticipated outcome here.

He wants her released into the enclosure. He wants to hunt her.

Recaptured during her escape from zone four, Maci Bishop wakes up in the mysterious, heavily fortified zone two, where wealthy citizens come to sate sordid, homicidal appetites by hunting death row inmates in a wooded enclosure. Live on camera, for spectators watching from the Resort.

Maci is rented as a plaything for a guest at the Resort, but when she kills her first customer in self-defence, her life sentence quickly becomes a death sentence. To teach the other women a lesson, the warden throws Maci into the enclosure, to be hunted alongside a vicious death row inmate named Callum.

Though at first, he believes the beautiful, half-naked woman is bait intended to lure him out, Callum saves Maci from a brutal death. As they fight their way through the enclosure, taking on hunters, guards, and ruthless robotic hounds, he falls hard for the tiny, clever hellcat and discovers she may just have the skills to get them both out of the enclosure alive.

But Maci won’t abandon the other women to pay for her escape. Not again. She won’t be satisfied until she shuts down the entire Resort: clients, guards, hounds, and all. And there’s no way in hell Callum will let her walk into the lion’s den alone…

Hunter is a 75,000+ word novel set on a planet populated by violent criminals, so expect a gritty story about characters who have to fight to protect each other and their relationship.

In most cases, the only difference between the guards and the inmates is the uniform each wears

“Hunter” is the second book in the prison planet series and I enjoyed this even more than the first if that’s even possible.
This continues right after the events at the end of book one.
And this time we get to spend time with Maci as she is transferred to zone 2 as entertainment for the wealthy patrons of The Resort.
This book is a totally different ballgame than its predecessor each instalment having such a distinctly unique flavour.
So after accidentally killing one of the paying customers, Maci is thrown into the enclosure alongside fellow death row inmate Callum to be hunted live for the viewer’s amusement by the deceased’s brother.
Think Escape from the New-York / Running Man / The Hunger Games but with super sexy shenanigans and you’ll get the basic picture.

Unable initially to speak the same language and despite some initial suspicion understandably on Callum’s behalf; these two very swiftly bond; pulled together through there shared experiences and also through utter necessity each needing the others skill-sets for there very survival.
At the onset, their lack of spoken language maybe helping them to bond in a much more physical fashion.
Actions sometimes speaking louder than words.

He lifts a thick strand of my hair to his face and sniffs again. Then he rubs it on his cheek and says a word I hope means soft. Or pretty. Or something complimentary. Anything other than, “After I kill you I’m going to eat your flesh, shave your corpse, and wear your hair as a braided trophy.” Because that would definitely be a mood killer.

What I also loved about this was that though Callum was ultimately the muscle Maci was also no slouch when it came to saving her own butt.
Lacking the physical strength she uses other weapons in her vast arsenal and in a way it’s her actions that change the course of her and Caluums eventual fate.
I also really liked the Callum was secure enough in his own masculinity to appreciate and be impressed by the skills Maci herself brought to the table.

I stare at Maci in awe. Shaw may have thought he was putting her in here to die, but all he’s really done is arm the little tech-ninja with her weapon of choice. My little hell-kitten is crazy smart. She’s just used the warden’s own security system against him.

I also adored how blunt and Alpha Callum was while still managing to convey his affections towards Maci. He was a typical male sometimes not thinking to just express himself verbally expecting Maci to be a bloody mind-reader.

I already told you, hellcat. You’re mine. I’m yours. If that weren’t true, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t have come after you in the enclosure. I wouldn’t have given myself up. I wouldn’t have escorted thirty whining women through the woods in the middle of the night. I’m sorry if it didn’t occur to me to actually say the words, but Maci, I love the hell out of you.

I absolutely adored the overall execution here especially the epic finale we are treated to when Maci goes all GI Jane on their butts. Sometimes the Damsel needs to rescue the prince; loved this so much it was totally epic.
And Callum himself may not be all hearts and flowers but he does express himself with such heartfelt individuality that I just couldn’t help falling for this deadly prison inmate.

Hell yes, you belong to me,” he growls. “And not in that ‘prison dibs’ kind of way. You belong to me like my own fucking hand belongs to me. Like you’re a part of me. And I will fuck up anyone who tries to sever you from me.

See such a way with words has Callum; how could you not bow down and just appreciate his pure masculine yumminess.
There is just so much here to adore and while this has some serious life and death struggles it is also filled with some terrific one-liners and tongue in cheek humour.
Everything thing about this book just worked for me on all levels and I’m am so looking forward to the next exciting instalment I really can’t recommend this series enough.
