Watching You

Watching You by Shannon Greenland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Release Date-2/7/18

“Watching You” by Shannon Greenland was a well-written page-turner of a read.
My first experience with this particular author and pleased to say it was a positive one.
Genre-wise I would place this in the Young Adult/New Adult category.
I’m undecided between the two as there is some mild content near the end the might lean this more towards the New Adult camp.
It’s nothing hard-core and is really rather mild in nature but does stop this short of being a completely clean read.
What I did like about this particular content was how realistically it was portrayed rather refreshing and makes quite the change from the norm.
So moving on slightly; this was romantic suspense set in and around a prestigious boarding school. where our main girl Viola is attending on a scholarship that shes slightly fudged about on the application process to receive.
Here she runs into her new crush the gorgeous and Spanish Reil.
Almost instantly upon meeting Reil, she senses a deeper connection; but there are certain obstacles that seem to be standing in her way of a friendship the most important being the scholarship that Viola has acquired under less than honest circumstances.
There are so many parallels in her life that she can compare with Reil and this understanding and solidarity understandably brings her feeling much closer to her new friend.
So with her goals of school well underway Viola settles into her new academy life but it’s not long before events for her start to take a rather sinister turn.
And with the added complication of mean girls and her well-hidden secrets becoming common knowledge.
Viola is not enjoying her senior year as much as she originally anticipated.
So I really did enjoy this a lot; Yes it was probably more romantic than overall suspenseful and was slightly predictable in some places.
But and here’s the main kicker for me; I couldn’t put this down and for the reason alone this deserves for me its whole five stars.
I actually started reading this at my bedtime with every intention of a couple of chapters and then getting some much-needed shut-eye.
Well, that was a complete wash-out; I ended up reading this all through the night and finished in one sitting, talk about bags under the eyes the next day.
And it was so worth it; “Watching you” in itself is not an overcomplicated story but it did deliver for me that thrilling excitement that I was actually looking for from this.
Managing quite easily to keep my attention throughout.
It has some great characters and so much to recommend itself making it a complete no-brainer in terms of would I recommend this.
And I think its safe to say I definitely would; this is one read that I am happy to give the green light to.

With a history like ours, the meaning of the word family tended to tangle into something unrecognizable. DNA and bloodlines didn’t tie us together, and neither did our last names. Various shades of grey blurred the branches of our twisted family tree.

I wasn’t her brother.
They weren’t my parents.
Not that it mattered…

She was off limits.

Portia was my friend.
Then my foster sister.

And she’d always be the love of my life.

Family Ties

Family Ties by Stephie Walls
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Release Date-21/6/18

Oh Wow!! Just Wow!!!
“Family Ties” By Stephie Walls was friggin amazing; like sooo good.
It’s an angsty coming of age story; with blurred boundaries lines and an almost forbidden attraction between two vulnerable young adults just trying to navigate lives obstacles while existing in a world of chaos where their path in life is still waiting to be forged and the coming chapter is still yet to be written.
Clinging to each other like a lifeline in a storm; Portia and Jude’s destinies have been intertwined since a young age.
Both entering each other’s life at a critical time these two share an unimaginable bond; foster siblings and confidantes since the day they met.
Shared Experiences and broken psyche’s Portia and Jude share a bond like no other.
But what happens when these feelings start to morph into something more.
When one is almost more broken than the other can deal with and when the one who makes your soul sing is the very last person society believes you should be with.
So, This was such a beautiful and at times heartbreaking tale.
From the moment I started reading this, I was transfixed with fascination and delight; never have I wanted someone to win at life as much as these two.
I can not find anything about this story I actually disliked; it ticked every one of my boxes and more.
A raw and emotional tale that leapt of these pages capturing my heart with its magical and emotive Prose.
this slow build style of narration really did work here; building an atmosphere of almost hopeful anticipation with its smouldering low burner approach; I loved and adored every expected moment. Every twist and turn took to arrive at its eventual end game.
At times this awakening wasn’t pretty or politically correct, but what this journey definitely was at its core was honest.
I can not recommend this story enough it was so thought-provoking and real and its one that will certainly stick in my mind for a long time to come.
This is an author I have never experienced before and she has undoubtfully scored a new fan in me; so impressed with this excellent piece of fiction; Bravo.

Traitor (Twisted Fate, #1)

Traitor by Alyson Santos
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Release Date-6/6/18

This was such an unexpected little gem; so emotive and heart-wrenching in its brutality.
But also strangely uplifting and profound at the same time.
I felt so connected to the storyline and its characters here and this was one read that definitely snuck up on me in stealth mode; catching me completely unawares with its rawness and individuality.
From the second of starting this, I was ever so intrigued; The tale told here was so unique and so different it was in a genre all of its own class and I found myself struggling to classify this as it crossed so many lines with its profound message and agenda.
A real standout story that captured my attention with its ultimate distinctiveness.
“Traitor” in its first half almost seemed to rely more on the sentiment and simple interactions between Kaleb and Andie than any shock tactics to hook and draw in its reader and that was a real plus point for me.
Maybe that’s why in the second half the sheer brutality portrayed was such a contrast; it really reflected back the almost simplistic beginning here when placed and held up against such utter savagery as we encountered in “The prisoner” chapters; truly shocking.
The prose used here was so good Building anticipation and a sense of almost injustice against this post-apocalyptic waste-ground.
There was such originality in the way this story unfolded; Its a tale of two halves and though told in dual POV rather than it being alternate chapters; which is the usual norm; this book is split down the centre; with Andie’s perspective first; closely followed by Kaleb’s.
And rather than chapters dedicated to the build-up in Kaleb and Andie’s relationship; what we get is a series of flashbacks to more closely explain how there deep and profound connection ultimately developed.
This was such an original way of narrating and one I really adored.
The author doesn’t go into great back detail; it is assumed that the reader is somewhat aware of previous past endeavours; I found that this was not a great issue as the story is somewhat self-explanatory and so easy to follow along with.
As I mentioned previously; this has a sort of dystopian apocalyptic feel to it; A civil war rages across all fronts and our two main characters both seem to have there own personal roles to play.
This is almost a love across the barricades romance; one where you are forced to pick a faction but where both are equally abhorrent in their ultimate behaviour and intention; both sides guilty; nether innocent; both awash in shades of grey; is the real sense you take away from this touching poignant tale.
In fact, its poor Kaleb who gets caught in this crossfire who is the ultimate victim here; a pawn in this stalemate of wills and at the mercy and whims of powerful individuals; it’s truly heartbreaking to witness the extent of his suffering at the hands of a monster.
I could have wept rivers of pain for his agony, torment and terror.
How much misery and despair he must have endured internally to swallow his pride and beg for mercy in the way he did; truly tragic and dehumanising; a casualty of war not of his making.
But we also get to experience the other side of the coin; how just when you think life cant give you any more surprises it throws you curveballs.
That hope is not lost and people can still amaze you with there ingrained humanity.
Ultimately what I took away from this was a profound sense of faith and that even in the dark there can be a glimmer of light; for Kaleb, that is Andie she is his very beacon of hope.
Loved the ending here; I was worried for a second; so was so pleased to not have my expectations dashed just for cruel shock value; It was a bit of a phew moment for me there.
This was my first book by this author but so won’t be my last; I cant recommend this read enough; this is fiction at its best outstanding.

Raven Elliot blasts into town like a wrecking ball—striking and devastating.
With a few simple words, my reliable routine crumbles to dust.

“Is this seat taken?”

I could close my eyes and let her voice wrap around me like a lover’s caress.
But this isn’t that type of story.
And I’m sure as hell not that kind of man.

She hovers in my space, batting her lashes and smiling shyly.
The glimmer in her sapphire eyes is a promise of peace.
But I’m not falling for it.
And Raven doesn’t take the hint.

What starts as a battle of wills, explodes into a turf war.
She stands directly in my path everywhere I turn.
No matter how hard I shove, she won’t budge.
Raven seems dead set on driving me insane.
But I was here first.
And I’m not going down easy.

After all, no one ever taught me how to treat a lady.

GENT Teaser 5
Release Date-30/5/18

Harloe Rae was a new author for me so wasn’t quite sure what to expect; So pleased to report that “Gent” was a very enjoyable endeavour indeed.
So first the characters portrayed here were in their early twenties; And while I usually prefer an older Hero as my go-to age choice; I also do enjoy the occasional New Adult book.
So this is an enemies to lovers romance.
The H Trey is a complete tool; like a major obnoxious, rude, opinionated man-whore with a ginormous chip on his shoulder.
The h Raven is his complete opposite in personality always willing to see the best in people.
Open, friendly and a complete sweetheart.
When Raven arrives in this small town after college to work at her friends business; Trey and Raven’s paths collide with epic fallout.
From day one Trey makes it his mission in life to alienate Raven; while in return she tries to reach out to him; extending an olive branch.
Both have similar life experiences but have ultimately coped in completely different ways, and it was quite apparent from the start that Trey was hiding behind his gruff rude-boy persona.
A shield erected to protect his heart from future wounds.
So I loved this story; it was simplistic and fun; A sexy hot read with your classic misunderstood Hero.
This wasn’t any major plot shocks here, and it was slightly predictable in places, but that really didn’t bother me as what we do get is still a lovely warm read; that was so easy to get lost and swept up in.
It was told in dual POV and had the added bonus of a great supporting cast.
I can definitely see future stories emerging from there.
This also had a sweet and romantic HEA and is your classic Girl saves boy from himself.
So “Gent” was great; I found it to be a very positive experience and if you like New Adult Contemporary romances this one is definitely well written.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Gent” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

Prelude in the American Gods series.

Young. Wealthy. Elite. Attractive. The gentlemen’s secret society at Yale was filled with them.

And Nathaniel Radcliffe, the bane of my existence, was one of them.

As the right hand of the American Gods, he was conceited and arrogant. A dangerously handsome man in a tailored custom suit and shiny black oxford loafers.

The classroom was our battlefield. We made a sport out of arguing and debating, ready to do anything in order to win over the other.

Deadly opponents, deadlier minds.

I’d sworn I’d never give him the upper hand, until…

The secret I’ve been hiding for the last three years?

He just discovered it… and now he has all the power.

#Filthy Gods by R. Scarlett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

RT BANNER Filthy Gods.jpg

Release Date-6/5/18

“Filthy Gods” By R Scarlett was a very enjoyable New-Adult romance that ticked all my boxes.
It was an easy read told from Juliette’s POV and tell the story of Nathaniel and Juliette when they happen to collide one summer when on break from Yale where they both attend school.
So, Juliette takes a job as a maid at a prestigious old school country club for the summer.
unbeknown to herself Nathaniel’s Mother is her new boss and after discovering Juliette working at his family’s business Nathaniel offers Juliette an arrangement; he will keep her financial situation a secret but in return, he wants them both to explore the attraction further that currently sizzles between them both.
Setting in motion a summer of sneaking around and discovery between our two young lovers from opposite backgrounds.
So despite the blurb here I found this one to be quite low angst; this seemed to have more of a rom-com vibe to it than the blurb here actually suggests.
The enemy feeling here is very shortlived; especially as I get the impression it was more one-sided.
“Filthy Gods” gave the overall effect that it was Juliette with the main beef and Nathaniel was frankly a tad oblivious in my opinion to the whole thing.
He actually saw Juliette as a fantastic debate opponent and liked the fire she directed his way.
There was no animosity from his direction at all.
And that heat is not just kept to the classroom as both Juliette and Nathaniel proceed all summer to dial up the heat here by a few hundred notches.
This has very few secondary characters; mainly just relying on our main duo to hook and keep its reader.
And they do manage to do a fantastic job of that all by themselves; no aide needed here.
Despite being somewhat predictable in places I still found “Filthy Gods” to be such a positive reading experience.
I consumed this in one sitting and am happy to recommend this fun sexy story to my fellow romance readers.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Filthy Gods (American Gods 0.5)” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ STARS
Release Date-14/5/18

“Tacet A Mortuis” What can I say about this mind-altering piece of fiction.
I actually felt like I had entered an alternate reality here; so great was my confusion at times.
But despite this, I still loved this book like so so much.
I felt like I had been waiting for this story and answers for like absolute forever.
So my first item on the agenda was to re-skim book two “The Broken Puppet” to reacquaint myself on the whole silver Swan enigma.
Then being in the right head space I dived in, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.
And boy it didn’t take long before I was back there immersed in this confusing tale of obscurity and lifelong secrets.
A mystery shrouded in aeons of tradition where the Kings are the pivotal players and every move is a calculated risk.
And at the very centre of all this confusion is our “Silver Swan” Madison Montgomery.
And where in previous books I have given her a bit of a free pass in regards to her sometimes immaturity; here I really just wanted to totally lamp her arse.
Her behaviour at the beginning of this book was abysmal.
The fallout from what Madi perceives as a betrayal from Bishop was harsh man and really didn’t catalogue Madi in a very good light at all.
I found myself totally switching from Team Madi to Team Bishop; so great was my disgust at her immature actions.
it’s just a bloody good job she does manage to redeem herself at a later date; that’s the only thing that saved her from my steaming wrath.
So book three is actually told in a slightly different fashion than previous instalments.
Instead of just Madison’s POV this time we are treated to the inner sanctum of what is Bishop’s cold calculating psyche.
And as an added bonus; an occasional cameo from Madi’s twin bro Daemon.
And this I found really added an extra layer to proceedings; giving us a much more in-depth and sympathetic profile of Bishop the man and what ultimately makes him tick.
You get to see such a different side to Bishop here; more loving and protective overall but still a complete bad-ass to outsiders or anyone he perceives as a threat to his girl.
And after the initial fallout from book two the dynamic established between Madi and Bishop is the best to date.
Maybe because we are getting a much more rounded perspective of them both.
We do get some of the questions that have been rattling around our heads finally answered here; thank god.
But in true Amo Jones style, we are still not let in on the whole entire picture.
There is still so much more to discover and yippee another book to boot.
Was so stoked to discover that titbit.
I’m just hoping we stay with Bishop and Madi.
Please god, more Bishop especially; I beg of you.
“Tacet A Mortuis” is as usual with this series; red hot in the sexual department.
And I’ll say it again; where were these gods of sexual prowess when I was a girl.
Mmm, nope not seeing any; move along.
But suspending disbelief slightly; Bishop and Madi really spark flames here with there combustible energy and sizzling chemistry.
setting the pages on fire with there antics.
Bucket of water needed, please.
There was also a great supporting cast to compliment the A team; all really well developed.
Some old faces and some new players.
And as I said earlier some closure.
But damn it I was hoping for all the answers here and I’m still left somewhat confused.
Oh well onwards and upwards.
So despite me wanting to drop-kick madison throughout “Tacet A Mortuis” I’m still giving this Five stars.
I ummed and awwed a bit and did consider dropping half a star; just on account of Madi.
I eventually decided against this; I was so hooked and invested in the storyline here that I have to give it its due.
I couldn’t put this down and “tacet A Mortuis” was adhered to my hand throughout this whole experience.
So it’s getting a full house.
I cant recommend this series enough; it’s truly an intriguing read.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Tacet a Mortuis (Whispers from the Dead) (The Elite King’s Club #3)” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

It has all my most hated Tropes.
In particular, love triangles, hate them sooo much !!!
but still, something compelled me to give this a go.
And in all honesty, I can only give it it’s full five stars as Distorted love has gripped me with its sharp talons piercing my skin and digging in for maximum damage leaving me ravaged with blood and tears.
After finishing I’m sat here with the biggest lump ever in my throat.
I’m just like so sad it’s unreal, I’m an actual mess here.

So this book, my head right now is seriously messed up.
I can’t stop thinking about Madi and the Kings, like what the hell is even going on here.

I have no clue, I am so confused the broken puppet left me with even more questions than answers.
I loved this instalment but Madison you seriously need to start asking the right questions girl.

And while I’m at it READ THE BOOK MADI !!!!

You’ve got a book with answers and you don’t read it, I’m shaking my head in disbelief here.
This girl, god how long does it take you to read one bloody book.
And breathe, so now I’ve got that little tantrum out of the way I’ll continue.

Despite me wanting to strangle Madi for her sheer stupidy I have to give this the full five stars as I couldn’t put it down,
I read into the night and before I knew it I was at ninety percent and it was getting light outside.
I seriously lost track of time I was so engrossed.
So if your expecting answers here, well just don’t.
The Broken Puppet just throws more disarray into the mix.
seriously this story is doing my head in with its serious lack of clarity.

Though We are drip fed a few tidbits to keep us hanging in there like why Brantley has got serious beef with Madison, didn’t see that one.
The Broken Puppet is action-packed and I’m seriously loving the new dynamic that is developing between Madi and Bishop.
And that finale, I’m not even sure what occurred there it was so obscure in its intentions.
But I’m hooked and intrigued and I will be waiting impatiently for some clarification.
So disregarding how much this did my head in I am now gagging for the next book.
I really need and want it like now.

OMG, What did I just read I’m speechless here.

 photo Girls-are-shocked-after-sending-Kristina-home_zpsc8lgrpah.gif

So I’m not gonna major rehash here as the blurb said loads.
I’m just gonna jump in and gave my overhaul on all that makes The Silver Swan (Elite Kings Club, #1) by Amo Jones some seriously sensational fiction. so here goes.
So we have our Madi here, a bit of an oddball, never quite fitting in, she comes complete with a shady past and a brand new step mum, who shes met exactly twice before.
Brand New student at the exclusive Riverside Prep school.
And also a Brand new stepbrother, The cheeky, cocky Nate.
Who daddy dearest has totally failed to mention.
And he then has the nerve to warn Madi to stay away from him as he thinks’s he’s trouble when he’s the one that’s left them both home alone together.
I mean he so deserves the shittiest dad award like for real.
And there are no parents like anywhere, I mean totally defunct are these caregivers to all the teenagers here.
These are some seriously sucky role models.

 photo giphy_zpsvu0oo3br.gif

So Madi’s new school comes complete with ten alpha kings, which her new Bro is one of.
The (Elite Kings Club) rumours abound about this exclusive privileged little boys club, they rule the school and Bishop is the leader of this little posse and he seems to have Madi in his crosshairs.
So first this is not YA, discount the characters ages, this is definitely aimed at Adults.
there is a bit of everything here, creepy-arse rhymes, intrigue, mystery and some super steamy sexual shenanigans.
Though there’s no way teenagers are having sex like this if they are, where were these teenage gods when I was a youngster.
just an observation like, I won’t be marking it down or anything for this, that would be like cutting off my nose to spite my face.
So discounting our Elite Kings god-like bedroom skills, there are some great characters here some I loved and some I loved to hate.
If I had to pick favourites then Nate would be a front-runner his cocky, arrogant but super protective vibe towards Madi just really got to me.
Her two friends Tatum and Tillie coming in a very close second.
Though it became apparent to me that Tillie knows more about things than she’s been letting on.
At least that’s the vibe I got from her near the end.
So, The finale here, oh boy that was a bit cliff-hangerey.

I mean I need my next fix of this fantastic series like now, so pleased I haven’t got to wait as that would have seriously done my nut in.
As though we have some answers, there’s no actual resolution here and everything is just so darn weird.
With no real explanations at all.
I’m really hoping the next book provides more clarification to events as I seriously can’t stop thinking about this story and it’s driving me literally insane.
On a final note, the cover of this book is so visually stunning that would be enough to give this a try alone.
So if you want a series that’s going to fry your brain with questions give this a go its fiction at its finest and I devoured every word.
I was provided with a copy of “The Silver Swan (Elite Kings Club, #1)” By the author of which I have reviewed voluntary.

ARC Book Review
Release Date-13/2/18

Twisted Fate (Twisted, #1) by Jessi Elliott is a fabulous debut offering.
In fact, it’s hard to believe this is from a debut author.
Jessie Elliot has managed to completely smash it with Twisted Fate.
I don’t usually read many New Adult novels, but I do like to partake in a good fantasy and I’m a sucker for anything involving the fae.
This is a fantastic addition to the genre.

So in This, we have Aurora Marshall a fourth-year business student currently attending college.
In a case of mistaken identity, Aurora finds herself abducted from a college party and in the hands of Tristan the gorgeously overbearing leader of the dark fae.
Her eyes opened to a world she had no idea existed.
Now in danger from various factions, Aurora finds herself in the position of needing Tristan’s protection.
Entering into a wary alliance Aurora finds herself in the employ of Tristan’s very successful business as part of her final studies criteria.
As the pair become closer a mutual attraction develops between Tris and Rory.
But there’s a war brewing between the Dark and the Light and Aurora as Tristan’s weakness might just get stuck right smack in the middle of it.

So I really adored Twisted Fate, from the second I started reading this I was absolutely transfixed with this fascinating tale.
Both Aurora and Tristan are such great relatable and likeable individuals.
There was also the added bonus of the well rounded diverse secondary players that were involved.
So many new authors make the mistake of not fleshing these out, not Jessie, these are just as multi-faceted as the main players.

There are the usual twists and turns with this along with some extremely heartbreaking moments where Tristan really comes into his own showing Aurora just what kind of man or fairy he really is.
The ending itself, well let’s just say I really didn’t see that one coming.
It will be very interesting to see where the author takes this next.
And I’m gagging for the next instalment I need this so now!!!

So there we have it a brilliant debut offering that’s completely knocked it out of the park.
Give this a go its all sorts of fairylicious and it’s certainly such addictive reading it should come with its own warning.
