 BOOK REVIEW

Release Date-October 22nd 2019 Genre-Sci-Fi Fairy Tale Retelling Romance

Kindle Edition-215 Pages

When she was four years old, Syrie Montgomery was nearly killed when she got lost on Ratera III, the global zoo her family owns. Eighteen years later, she’s back, kidnapped from her bed and abandoned in the location of her childhood trauma—the expansive Fetoji habitat.

Terrified and alone, Syrie runs right into a trap and finds herself at the mercy of the creature who set it—a huge leonine hunter who both scares and captivates her in equal measure…

Deep in the woods, Lohr discovers a rare bounty in his hunting net—a tiny, helpless human woman. She begs him to set her free. To keep her safe while she’s stuck in his habitat. And she promises to return the favor, as soon as she can.

Lohr scoffs at her offer. How could this mousy little human with blunt teeth and no claws possibly be any help to him? He frees her because he needs his net back. Which is when he notices that she’s soft and pretty. And that she smells good. And that she feels amazing tossed over his shoulder, when he carries her to his home. For her protection, of course…

The lion and the mouse develop an instant, sizzling chemistry—but can their passion survive once he realizes that her family is the reason he’s spent his entire life as a zoo exhibit?

Cosmic Fairy Tales is a collaboration in which several authors are retelling beloved tales with a science fiction romance twist. Each book is a standalone, containing its own Happily Ever After, and they can be read in any order. Be sure to explore the other titles in the collection:

The Frog Prince by Tracy Lauren

The Lion and the Mouse by Emmy Chandler

The Lion and the Mouse by Emmy Chandler
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Syrie finds herself kidnapped and stranded on her family’s zoo planet biospheres housing alien species in replicas of their home terrain.
Literally dropped into the enclosure she manages to get caught up in Lohr’s trap.

Initially resistant to aiding the small human due to past events Lohr reluctantly takes her back to his den for safekeeping. Lohr is a Fetoji a humanoid species with the characteristics of a lion claws tail luscious main and bonus he also purrs. He finds himself seriously attracted to the human female under his care and Syrie returns this interest.

But he has no clue just who her family are and Syrie worries that he will hate her once he discovers the truth of just exactly who she is.

This was sizzling hot and Syrie and Lohr definitely had plenty of chemistry together there was also a deeper message to convey one that delves into all the deeper implications of an actual living dollhouse and just how wrong it is to basically cage an intelligent species for entertainment.

I adored Lohr he was just so sweet but also equally ferocious. Syrie for me took a bit more work as I did find her initially a bit spoilt and unthinking. It also at least originally seemed to be all about her but she did eventually grow on me especially when she decided to do the right thing. I also would have liked the finish to be expanded on slightly as it did seem a tad anticlimactic.

Overall though this was an easy read and I definitely enjoyed it.

 BOOK REVIEW

Release Date- March 27th 2020 Genre-Fantasy Romance

Kindle Edition-345 Pages

A Troll Romance Novel.

After a deadly accident involving one of Bethania’s head councilman, Delilah is forced to flee her village or face the wrath of the common-folk who only wish to see her hanged for her crimes. With limited options and an angry mob on her back she boldly enters the lonely mountain, but instead of finding safety and refuge, she finds herself in the presence of angry, unpredictable troll.

Skarde wasn’t supposed to let her live. Humans are not allowed to know of their existence, it is forbidden. And yet when the human female stumbles into his life, he’s unable to do the one this he must, claim her life for the good of his long lost tribe.

Skarde & Delilah, is the first slow burning romance story in a monster romance series. Guaranteed HEAs!

WARNING This book is for adults and contains physical & mental abuse against women, attempted rape, explicit love scenes, occasional use of heavy language (sexual &non-sexual in nature). Some of the content may trigger individuals, some may find the content dark etc.

The Lonely Troll by Harpie Alexander

This book did a lot of telling rather than getting you to experience it yourself which sometimes made it difficult to connect.
It had some good ideas but was poorly executed in places and I found the narrative to be at times quite stilted and incredibly formal in nature. Thankfully the style of writing did eventually grow on me

So I originally had an issue with our heroine Delilah she seemed wholly unaffected by all the dark events that seem to happen to her here which then had a knock-on effect leaving me slightly disconnected. Her thought process was also strange for example when she was glad her attackers were dead at Skarde’s hand but felt they didn’t deserve to actually die, well yeh they so did and I couldn’t fathom why she couldn’t grasp this especially after just what they had planned to do to her. She did get better with this as time went on but In short, Delilah was just far too nice she should have been rejoicing in the fact that her tormentors were wiped from this earth, good riddance.

I did like though that she seemed quite pragmatic and realised her limited options not acting like a diva.

The Troll here Skarde who is Delilah’s reluctant champion I found intriguing he’s a bit of a lonely soul grumpy and unused to the company of others. He runs hot and cold in his initial confusion and this isn’t quite instalove but it’s not slow burn either.

He also has a sad past and this I think is what initially helps them both bridge the gap between them recognising their similarities despite their species barrier.

This also had heat and these two did have chemistry and I did believe in their eventual connection together.
But the ending for me was a bit rushed and definitely could have been expanded on again this told rather than showed the reader.

I definitely enjoyed bits of this more than others and it did have some imaginative ideas. Some of the secondary characters though were complete caricatures and very one-dimensional I also wasn’t a fan of the final ending either.

The actual romance between Delilah and Skarde I found to be very sweet

This had both positive’s and negatives for me and I would say that the middle of this was the best bit and its the start and finish that lost me slightly, I felt this needed some further expansion also this had some pacing issues and I felt that events started to transpire at breakneck speed and so swiftly that it was hard to keep up.
All of the above is the main reason for my final rating.

ARC BOOK REVIEW

Release Date-April 15th 2021 Genre-Mafia Romance

Kindle Edition-420 Pages

♥♥♥Emma♥♥♥

I was a willing sacrifice in an arranged marriage. Until my father made a new deal and gave me to another. Now I must marry a savage. A Northerner- the very thing I had been taught to hate. I vow to never be his. I will never belong to Shay O’Reagan. I will defy him every step of the way.

He may lay claim to my body, but he will never own my heart.

◆◆◆Shay◆◆◆

In order to secure my place in the Irish Mafia, I agree to an arranged marriage. A marriage with a willing bride, one groomed to be the wife of a mafia king. What I get is a redheaded beauty hell bent on my destruction. Turns out, she was meant to be the perfect mafia wife- just not mine. That treacherous detail doesn’t stop me from wanting her. From needing to taste her ruby red lips.

The fire that blazes in her defiant eyes lights a desire inside of me that demands I claim her as my own.

While she wastes my time defying me with every breath, the North rises up demanding retribution for a crime that was buried a long time ago.

The clock is ticking as I battle a war around me and within my own walls. Every minute takes us both closer to certain death.

I’m unsure of who my true allies are and where my enemies are hiding. There’s only one thing I’m certain of.

I will never give up.
I will fight to the end, no matter the cost.

I am a King and I will die on my feet.

Mafia King by Vi Carter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So this one was hands down my favourite I enjoyed the first book in this series but this one was even better. This carry’s on with Shay O’Reagan kind of inheriting his cousin Jacks unwanted arranged marriage that his dad had originally schemed for.

Emma Murphy is now his intended bride and she’s far from willing, she expected Jack but Shay is from the north and is a complete savage in her eyes.

So initially I found Emma quite unreasonable and irrational. She seemed to have a limited sense of overall self-preservation and especially considering she has grown up in this type of lifestyle so you’d think she’d be a bit more savvy and accepting.

straight from the start, Emma gets Shay’s back up with her open hostility and that only intensifies when he realises just who’s daughter he’s been set up to marry.
Smelling a rat he packs up his bride and heads back north, both of them have others who want them dead so it’s definitely not a match made in heaven.

These two may start out at loggerheads but what they do have is some explosive chemistry and it’s not long before Emma realises she has Shay all wrong.
He also starts to feel very protective over the little red-headed spitfire in his charge.

This really was action-packed throughout much more so than the first book. Emma definitely grew on me and I liked Shay from the start even with all his violent tendencies and though he was far from perfect he wasn’t too proud to admit his mistakes either.

He is a bit of a hothead for sure and temper wise these two are a definite match and the sparks were certainly flying here.

With all the scheming from uncle Liam and with him bringing his son and Jacks brother Richard back into the mix, I’m now incredibly intrigued to meet him and see just how this shakes things up here. I like this Irish mafia series a whole lot and will be picking up the next one in the series.

 BOOK REVIEW

Release Date-April 8th 2021 Genre-Omegaverse Romance

Kindle Edition-185Pages

He has only one rule:
Never run. Surrender.

I owe my life to a masked killer. He came for me, like an avenging angel of death sent to spare me from pain and humiliation.

Yet teach me the price of salvation.

I am bound to him by the blood he spilled for me, but he didn’t save me out of mercy. I don’t think he even knows the word. He wants submission. He wants me by his side.

And he wants this city for his own.

I will never surrender.

Alpha is the first book in Nora Ash’s suspense-filled Omegaverse series, Alpha Ties. Each book is a full-length novel with a complete romance storyline.

This series gets dark, and it gets dirty. If you don’t enjoy your romance scorching and your alphas rough & dominant, give this book a pass.

Please note: This book is the compiled version of Nora’s previously published Omegaverse serial, Alpha. It contains the instalments Alpha: Taken, Alpha: Masquerade, & Alpha: Mated.

Alpha by Nora Ash
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this one a lot and will now definitely be reading other stuff by this author in the future.
This is omegaverse and it was done very well it was also quite explicit which is as you would expect from this particular genre and I did especially appreciate this.

It’s set in a modern society but with alpha omega and beta dynamics in place.
Leigh a reporter presents during an electoral candidacy press conference catching the attention of all in attendance including mayor candidate Peter Leod.

This brings her fully to his attention and he definitely wants to know more, there’s danger and heat and also some added dark themes and it really was such an easy page-turner.
Peter a liberal has up until now has tried to suppress his alpha instincts but Leigh’s arrival in his life changes all that bringing all of his aggression and protective instincts to the forefront.

It was really well written and though not a very long read it delivered on all fronts. If you’ve read this genre type before you’ll know just what to expect if not just a heads up it gets very dirty, but it still has a fully developed story arc running through. Definitely recommend this one if you like omegaverse that’s not too dark.

I voluntary reviewed a copy of Alpha (Alpha Ties #1).

 BOOK REVIEW

Release Date-April 8th 2021 Genre- Fantasy Romance

Kindle Edition-369 Pages

When I wake up at a female auction in a world I don’t recognize, all I can think about is getting back home to Texas. I want absolutely nothing to do with a realm called Valora, magic, faeries, or being sold to the highest bidder.

But the Day Realm king has other plans.

Zander says I’m his fated mate. I don’t believe him. That doesn’t stop him from tricking me into marrying him, though. It doesn’t matter if I argue or run—he won’t let me go.

I should hate him. Instead, I find myself ridiculously attracted to the stubborn, broody man. Sometimes he terrifies me, so I don’t know why his rare smiles give me warm tingles or why his arms make me feel safe.

Everything about Valora is confusing, but after just a short time here, I realize something—this place is full of dangers that are way more frightening than my new husband, and staying by his side just might be my only option.

The Fae King’s Prize by Jamie Schlosser
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I think this one is my favourite book yet and though each book is part of a connecting series this can easily be read as a stand-alone. This was Zander who is the day realm king and Maelyn’s story. Mae a human finds herself kidnapped by snatchers and on the auction block back in the fae realm.

Zander is undercover liberating the stolen females and recognises Mae as his fated mate.

Instead of returning her to her home in Texas, he claims Mae for his Queen something Mae is initially not on board with. The bond between them is slightly broken on Mae’s end and though she’s attracted to Zander she doesn’t instantly feel the depths of emotions he is currently experiencing.

So he’s going to have to woo her the old fashioned way the only issue is when he experiences extreme feelings he shifts into a Griffin a curse he’s lived under for years and one he definitely hasn’t told his new wife about.

I enjoyed this one a lot it is quite instalove all the stories in this series tend to be but despite me not usually being a fan of that, it does work here.
It’s dual POV and quite action-packed so there’s also a lot going on and I definitely believed in the developed connection between Zander and Mae they did make such a lovely couple.

This isn’t a dark read at all it’s at heart an incredibly sweet romance so if you like fantasy romance with a devoted male that has saved himself for his future mate then this is the story for you. This turned out to be such an easy and sexy read.

 BOOK REVIEW

Release Date-March 27th 2021 Genre-Paranormal M/M/F Romance

Kindle Edition-349 Pages

A dead conquest. A succubus signature.

An edict sending the culprit back to Hell.

The culprit being me.

My name is Gwen, and I’m a succubus with a control problem. Except I didn’t create this mess.

Now I have ten days to prove my innocence. Not a problem.

Well, minus one minor detail–the two hot demons hellbent on helping me prove my case.

Lord Zebulon makes me want to fall to my knees with a single glance.
And Zane recently shattered my heart.

It’s a match made in Hell. And a union probably blessed by the devil himself.

So I have ten days not to fall in love. Ten days of staying out of Zane’s and Lord Zebulon’s beds.

And ten days to find out who framed me for murder.

Man, sometimes being a succubus really sucks.

Author’s Note: Paramour of Sin is a standalone paranormal romance featuring a Demonic Lord with a penchant for drawing blood, a kinky incubus with a proclivity for playing dirty, and a wayward Succubus known for her lethal touch. There will be MM, MF, and MMF content.

Paramour of Sin by Lexi C. Foss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This one was smoking like singe your fingers need a cold shower to cool down hot.
It’s a paranormal ménage M/M/F romance featuring a demon Lord an Incubus and a Succubus it’s set in the dark provenance world but can be read as a stand-alone.

So Something is killing humans and leaving Guinevere’s essence behind as the supposed culprit.
As a young succubus, she has a known issue with her control when feeding but it’s something she’s been working on with the help of Zane and Zebulon.

Lord Zebulon is a demonic lord with a shed load of power he also has a soft spot for Gwen so is determined to get to the bottom of just who is framing her.
Zane is an old and powerful Incubus one that crushed Gwen’s feelings years back mostly to push her away he has always craved her despite these actions, they are also incompatible due to their identical sex demon natures both needing to feed from others.

Zebulon is that bridge that connects them and when these three finally connect as a trio they click like missing pieces of a puzzle.
Gwen being the piece that neither knew was missing and the demonic lord’s power is more than enough to keep them all sated.

The danger that Gwen is facing brings all three finally onto the same page with Zane and Zebulon realising just what’s at stake here their future happiness together.

This was fast-paced and filled with plenty of supernatural intrigue and a bucket load of spice. I really enjoyed this one a great deal, I’ve read the majority of this authors books but this was my first experience with this particular series. I will now definitely be adding the rest of them to my TBR pile.

Grave of Words by Kathryn Ann Kingsley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this a lot, it’s book two so a continuation of the story we previously started and as such cannot be read as a stand-alone.
I believe this is a trilogy so all will conclude in the final book and one thing I have to say about this author is she’s like a writing super-god and you never have long to wait for each instalment she definitely doesn’t leave you hanging which is something I’m very grateful for.

So we left off previously with Ember taking Rxa prisoner intending to take him south to the temple of dreams and this starts up right where we left off.
So it’s got to be said I bloody adore Rxa he is a complete original and one of a kind such a contradiction and such a total loony tune I do think that one of my favourite things about him his sense of the ridiculous and corny one-liners are just so endearing.

He’s an intriguing mix of revengeful madness with such a matter the fact unapologetic vicious streak but at the same time, he’s mischievous and caring and completely loco. He’s a broken shell and he’s running on a purely emotional drive to annihilate everything in his path all that is except Ember. He’s disillusioned and feels such a deep sense of betrayal like everything previous in his life was based on a lie. His actions from before he sees not as a betrayal but as doing the right thing and the consequences of what he sees now as his abandonment by everyone he thought cared have really done a head number on him. He also deeply mourns what he perceives as his new tarnished persona especially his beloved wings. I actually felt really sad and empathetic towards his tragic plight.

Yes, he wants to wipe Under out completely but he does believe what he is going is valid like lancing a boil and removing what he perceives as a poison.

He’s a villain but also not, he’s not black and white he’s certainly not good but then he’s not all bad either as proven by his care of Ember.
He’s something in between the grey and constantly evolving all of the time.

Ember well she is struggling she knows what she needs to do but her heart and head are at war. She feels drawn to Rxa in a way she has never been to anyone before he intrigues and equally confounds her and despite her resolve, she can’t help but want him even knowing he needs to be stopped.

She also feels his suffering and can even empathise with his current situation his sorrow breaks her heart and she feels a deep sense of kinship with him.

This flits between Ember and Rxa POV’s and then over to join the other key players in Under to see how they are holding up. Dtu is growing closer to the human Jacob as they battle the Drengil and Maverick is experiencing an internal crisis, Aon well he is scheming as you would expect, everyone here has their part to play in what’s to come. All the threads are being gathered and looped together, set in place ready for the grand finale and I can already anticipate it’s going to be absolutely epic.

This author can sure weave a narrative and her world-building is some of the best I’ve seen yet.

This book also has progression in regards to Ember and Rxa and this one does turn up the heat factor, there’s also a bit of dubious consent involved nothing dark but Rxa does get persuasive not that Embers complaining she so wanted that push and just to let go and not take responsibility as I said earlier she’s at war with herself as she’s caught some pesky feelings towards the tarnished former peacekeeper.

Can’t recommend this serious enough and this definitely delivers on all fronts and I’m very looking forward to reading the conclusion.

Kindle Edition-246 Pages

A dangerous warrior holds her captive… But her freedom comes at a price.

Running from a man intent on making her his bride, Freya de Rayne flees her village to hide at the last place he would expect to find her–the city of Maranthe.

As a Lhianne, born with the ability to manipulate the earth and wind, the last thing Freya expects is to be caught working in the city without a permit. Thrown into prison, she meets the striking warlord Garrett Bradis, who makes her an offer–stay their prisoner… Or work for him.

She didn’t know who he was…

Garrett Bradis, Head of the Vhenn Bradis Family, needs to secure an alliance with the Lhiannes. The storms are growing more vicious, and the Lhiannes are the only ones who can help stop them. He never imagined one would fall right into their laps. Or that the vexing woman would get under his skin.

But when an army of once vanquished beasts rises from the ashes, it might threaten to destroy everything they hold dear.

Warlord’s Oath by Mira Gracen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an enjoyable fantasy romance read with some interesting world-building. There are two separate races sharing this world the Kilrhinn and the Lhianne.

Freya is a mixture of both she’s also working in the Kilrhinn community without a permit hiding from someone in her past that wants her back.

When she is run down and caught for working illegally she finds herself locked up and a prisoner, the leader of this Kilrhinn’s stronghold Garrett Bradis wanting an alliance with the Lhianne sees an opportunity and strikes a bargain if Freya gives her assistance freely to help achieve his goals afterwards he will set her free.

Straight from the beginning, Garrett recognises just how important Freya is to him and vows to protect and keep her safe and it becomes very clear that there are those out there who want to do Freya harm and Garret is determined to stand in their way.

This one is slow-burn and quite a sweet romance its also quite instalove but it’s not incredibly graphic in terms of the heat. I also believed in the connection developing between Freya and Garrett.

It also had some interesting side-characters I would have maybe liked a bit more word-building in regards to the origins of both races but it did have suspense and also intrigue and as a whole this was a well written easy read.

Brynn Galloway doesn’t know it, but her academic career in archaeology is about to become a laughingstock. When a rare Sumerian artifact surfaces, her presence is requested in Bolivia, but nothing is as it seems. And by her side is a sexy mercenary physicist with a maddening belief in space aliens.

Unfortunately, that includes partnering with a female archaeologist who proves to be the kind of distraction that brought down civilizations.

A combination of Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone, with a dash of The X-Files … get swept away in this romantic suspense adventure.

Ancient Winds is Book 3 in The Pathway Series and completes the Galloway Trilogy. Stay tuned for Cobalt Sea, Book 4, starring Dr. Grace Mann’s sister, Chloe, and her quest to decipher the language of sperm whales. Coming soon.

Each Pathway novel can be read as a stand-alone, but don’t miss the first two books.

Ancient Winds by Kristy McCaffrey

Genre-wise this is a mythological adventure with a slight paranormal slant and a bit of romance.
The romance part of this is actually played down though and this is very slow burn which did disappoint me slightly as Magee and Bryn both seemed such fascinating characters.

This has a lot of archaeology talk concerning origins and theories and even alien civilisations.
It was really well written and very well researched in fact I’m actually staggered at the amount of time this author has spent making this feel authentic she’s definitely done her groundwork that’s for sure.

This one is going to be more about personal taste and what type of fiction your into. I did enjoy parts of this but a lot did go over my head as there was a lot of detail.

I mostly preferred the times when Bryn was appreciating her surroundings or getting into scrapes rather than all the deep history, mythology and theorising that went on here as that felt quite heavy and managed to lose me in the process.

So why the low rating from me well I struggled to get into this and I think that was mostly because of all the heavy details.
There wasn’t as much romance as I was hoping either and this affected my enjoyment too, though I did believe in the eventual connection that formed between Tristan and Bryn.

But even though I struggled slightly with this I can’t fault this on its uniqueness and research and the fact it was very well written it just wasn’t unfortunately quite for me.

Her words have a part of me dying inside. I’ve done a lot of bad shit, but the way she’s looking at me now is like she can see it all—all the lives I’ve taken, all the lives I’ve allowed to be taken, whether it was personal gain or retaliation. “How would you know what a man is?” I take a step towards her. Her face blazes like I knew it would. “You’re a goddamned Northerner.” Angry tears brim her green eyes. “I’m starting to get the feeling you don’t like us, Northerner’s, love.” I snap and reach for her.

The Hunchback by Regine Abel
The Frog Prince by Tracy Lauren
Contaminated by Amanda Milo
The Ugly Dukeling by Bex McLynn
Jackie and the Giant by Honey Phillips
Escaping Wonderland by Tiffany Roberts
Rampion by Susan Trombley

With all the scheming from uncle Liam and with him bringing his son and Jacks brother Richard back into the mix, I’m now incredibly intrigued to meet him and see just how this shakes things up here. I like this Irish mafia series a whole lot and will be picking up the next one in the series.

I voluntary reviewed a copy of Mafia King (Young Irish Rebels #2).

The scream that leaves her plump lips should make me stop and rethink what I am about to do. But I can’t. I’m ready to make her take her words back; I’m ready to show her what a man really is. When Vi Carter isn’t writing contemporary & dark romance books, that feature the mafia, are filled with suspense, and take you on a fast paced ride, you can find her reading her favorite authors, baking, taking photos or watching Netflix.  Married with two children, Vi divides her time between motherhood and all the other hats she wears as an Author. She has declared herself a coffee & chocolate addict! Do not judge. Follow Beckie Bookworm on WordPress.com Privacy & Cookies: This site uses cookies.
