One Rose. One prisoner. A crime boss.
… and a man determined to overthrow him.
All I wanted was to help women. Free them of their demons. Until he walks in. See, the treatment centre I worked at was my home. The only one I’d known since I was seventeen.
I knew we’d opened a men’s unit. I got the honour of being head tech. He was a criminal. I was warned, prepared, professional. I knew it’d be hard… because of who my father is. I thought I was prepared.
I was anything but prepared. I was taken. Treasured.
Twisted by a criminal I swore I would never love.
Two love stories wrapped up in crime. In blood. Delivery.
Trigger Warning: This is a DARK romance. There is language, violence, sexual content and abuse.
Author Note: There IS a cliffhanger in this book, BUT the sequel is coming out in just a couple weeks. Pre-order will be live May 5th
Roses & Thorns by Bry Ann
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was an enjoyable read that for me was slightly swings and roundabouts in nature. There were some things here that I loved; while others not so much. It had an extremely unique style of narration using four separate POV’s rather than the more common one or two and rather than concentrating on just one individual couple here we get the added bonus of two; who each seem to share the spotlight equally. This was a very unique concept that I haven’t seen used that often. A two-fer if you will. The style of storytelling used here I initially found a trifle confusing, it did eventually start to grow on me and while I did feel a tad more connected to Sven and Rose, as the story unfolded Boss and Lacy also started to dig deeper and start to burrow beneath my skin. So why not a higher star rating? Well, I did struggle somewhat with the brutality depicted here and my final rating does reflect this slightly. I do like my dark fiction but for some reason here I had issues wrapping my head around Boss’s actions towards Lacy; his complete disconnect to Lacy as a fellow human being and his single-minded focus on his own personal goals at the expense of Lacy was really difficult to comprehend or even understand. It wasn’t even that the abuse happened, after all, I went into this with my eyes wide open. Its that It came at the hands of the man who is essentially her future heart. And yes I have read this type of thing before in my dark fiction its just Boss seemed to take it to a whole new level of extreme that shocked even me. This was hardcore abuse that I found difficult to process and I just couldn’t find it in my heart to forgive him for his incomprehensible actions towards Lacey. He essentially broke her which I found unforgivable. And no it doesn’t give you a free pass if someone else is inflicted your orders. There carrying out your wishes so your still ultimately responsible. In some ways, it’s worse. I found Sven and Rose while initially starting this a much more likeable proposition. He even internalises that he couldn’t treat Rose this way. I also should mention this ends on a cliffhanger which whilst not bothering me just thought I’d pre-warn you. I think the next Installment is already out anyway. At its essence “Roses and Thorns” is an interesting dark read that really pushed my boundaries far past what I was comfortable with. This can be good or bad depending on your perception and mindset as sometimes we need to experience things outside of our compact little boxes. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be continuing on here as I’m afraid I definitely reached my hard limit with the treatment of Lacy. I’m not going to recommend this, either way, it all depends on your own personal dark barometer. Just be aware going in that this is rather upsetting in places. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “Roses and Thorns” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

Duke is confused by the strange human female. Like him, she’s cold, made for the icy lands of the Northern Valos. Her resemblance with the Creators and questionable friendships raise their collective suspicions. Yet, only she can save their lost tribes condemned to an eternal slumber. As his heartstone warms for her, Duke is determined to prove to his people that despite appearances, Kira belongs with them… belongs with him.
Iced by Regine Abel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was my first book by this author and while I did somewhat enjoy “Iced” in some places this really wasn’t my complete bag. I was actually really looking forward to this as the blurb really intrigued me and I do so love me an alien that looks like an alien romance. So It wasn’t any one thing in particular that turned me off here. I think it was just an overall combination of issues that didn’t quite gel for me. Together they just stopped me emotionally connecting which was a shame because as I said earlier this on paper sounded so good. So this is part of a larger series where each particular instalment is written by a different author. I know, cool ay; I thought so too. Each book can be read as a standalone while still being part of a larger picture. I myself read “Iced” as a standalone and it did work. I had no problem following along here despite being a newcomer to this alien world.
So Kira and Duke; this is where I had issues I didn’t particularly like Kira I found her rather judgy
I also struggled with Duke as well the way he was all about second-guessing Kira’s motives and all they were like matching bookends in the judgmental department. Not very nice personality traits and all, as a result, I actually struggled to feel their connection.
I was just not feeling the love here.
Look this wasn’t awful; I just didn’t live up to my initial expectations and also didn’t leave much of an impression on me probably because I didn’t really care that much about Kira or Duke. I did finish and it did have its moments. I guess for me this was more of a middle of the road read. I borrowed “Iced” with my KU subscription.

That Guy by Belle Brooks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
OMG this book was bloody hilarious; I laughed till I had to cross my legs and run to the loo (you’ll get this if you have kids like me) My other half thought I was losing the plot and kept giving me concerned glances with the strange noises that were coming from my corner of the lounge. I can honestly say it’s been a while since ive found a story so bloody funny. “That Guy” should seriously come with a disclaimer; beware danger of serious injury through laughter. Ive previously read this author’s “Game Of Life Series” which I adored by the way. This was so different and definitely shows this author’s complete diversity as she switched genres so seamlessly and I enjoyed this just as much as past reads despite them being so different. This is the story of Melinda and Arlie and the trials and tribulations they traversed on their journey to coupledom; It wasn’t smooth or completely rock free but it was certainly honest and unique. I also want to put out there how much I adored Mindy’s bestie, Chris. In my opinion, everyone needs a Chris and for me, he really stole the show; he was the man. This was a fabulously funny romp that I generally appreciated; loved it so much. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “That Guy” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

He conquers her, body and soul.
Makarios of Kronos is a rebel, a smuggler who reports to no one, not even those on Rogue 5. But one betrayal sends him to a Coalition brig, and to a fate worse than death—capture by the Hive. He escapes but exchanges one prison for another. He now lives on the Colony, contaminated and deemed a risk. He’ll do anything to regain his freedom, including agree to a bargain with a beautiful, cunning warrior with secrets of her own.
Gwendolyn Fernandez volunteered to defend Earth from the Hive menace. For four years, she was a valued member of Coalition ReCon, until the Hive caught up with her, and a strange Nexus creature took special interest in her integration.
Gwen escaped with super-human strength and a will to live that cannot be broken, until the governor of the Colony demands she choose a mate. A bargain with Makarios seems so simple until he conquers her in a way no other has—body and soul—yet the Hive Nexus who wanted her for himself won’t take no for an answer.
Rogue Cyborg by Grace Goodwin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Really enjoyed “Rogue Cyborg” for some reason I could have sworn I had already read this author before; my bad, I so haven’t weird that as I was convinced I had mmm strange one that.
Well anyway, nope this is definitely a new author for me but one I would definitely read again. This was book 6 in the Interstellar Brides series but I read it as a standalone and had no issues following along with the current storyline. Everything is fairly self-explanatory here and it was really easy to get lost in this rich well-developed sci-fi story. I do so love me a good alien romance and “Rogue Cyborg” delivered in spades. It was fast paced well imagined and super sexy. I adored both Mak and Gwen they made such a fabulous couple and I was rooting for them all the way here. This was told in dual POV my favourite and was so smokin hot I needed a bucket of the cold stuff to extinguish the burn. This had a great secondary cast and if you have read the previous books in this series prepare to get re-acquainted to some past staring players. All in all, this was a fun read that totally captured my imagination and If you like a bit of the old Sci-Fi romance like myself then this one will probably be your flavour. This gets a definite seal of approval from moi. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “Rogue Cyborg” which I have reviewed voluntary.

Pub. Date: August 17, 2018 Publisher: Bella Jacobs Books Formats: Paperback, eBook One woman on the run. Four dangerously sexy bodyguards. And a war
brewing that will change the shifter world forever… I’m living on borrowed time, fighting for survival against a deadly new virus that has no cure and a cult doing its best to brainwash me. But when a mysterious note shows up on my windowsill one night, its chilling message–Run, Wren–launches me out of the frying pan and
into the fire.
Within hours, everything I thought I knew about my life, my family, and my origins is obliterated, and I’m racking up enemies at an alarming rate. Between the cult I’ve just escaped, a violent shifter faction out for my blood, and an ancient evil who eats “chosen ones” like me for breakfast, my last hope is to join forces with four dangerous-looking men who claim they were sent
to guard my life.
Luke, a werewolf with a rap sheet. Creedence, a lynx shifter who never met a mark he couldn’t con. Kite, a bear kin with a mean right hook and heart of gold. And Dust, my childhood best friend and dude voted least likely to be a
secret shape-shifting griffin.
But are these men really what they seem?
Or are my alpha guardians hiding a secret agenda of their own?
I’m not sure, but one thing is for certain—choosing the right allies will mean
the difference between life and death. For me, and everyone I love.
UNLEASHED is book one in the Dark Moon Shifter’s series. It is a true reverse
harem featuring one woman and her four mates.
Kite’s breath rushes out, his shoulders sagging with a relief that makes me feel like I’ve done something more important than answer a question. “Good. Keep trusting me, bird girl, and I’m going to show you a whole new world. A world where you can be the powerhouse you are on the inside.” The backs of my eyes begin to sting, but I’m smiling when I say, “There’s no cure, Kite. I might never go back into remission, let alone get better.” He pauses, seeming to debate something silently before he whispers, “But then again, you might.” Before I can assure him that hope is a lost cause in this case, he leans down and gently presses his lips to mine and I am the one who’s lost. My eyes slide closed as my heart lights up, each warm, sweet brush of his lips against mine making my body fill with magic. Electricity floods my nerve endings and my pulse races so fast I know I would fall over if Kite let me go. But he doesn’t let me go, he wraps me up in his big strong arms, hugging me close as he lifts me off my feet, bringing our lips onto a level playing field as he takes charge of holding us both steady. With a soft sob of gratitude for this kiss, this miracle, this moment of feeling like the luckiest girl in Seattle, I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him with everything in me, not caring if I use up all the energy I’ll need to get home. I’m always so careful—I’ve had to be in order to keep working and having some semblance of a normal life long after most people with my condition would have taken to their beds for good—but I don’t want to be careful right now. I want to be alive and wanted and on fire. I want to burn with this man who makes me hungry in a way I’ve never experienced before. In just a few moments, Kite banishes every teenage kiss and lukewarm make-out session from my early twenties from my memory, leaving nothing but his smoky, sexy taste in my mouth and his campfire and almond scent swirling through my head. Bella Jacobs loves pulse-pounding action, fantasy, and supernaturally high stakes, mixed with swoon-worthy romance and unforgettable heroes. She’s been a full-time writer for over a decade and hit the USA Today Bestseller list multiple times in contemporary romance under her other pen name. Depredation by Natalie Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
As per usual this author managed to deliver a completely corrupt tale filled with depravity and vicious immoral behaviour. This author is the master of this type of fiction managing to deliver such dissolute debased conduct while still also somehow hooking the reader like a fish on a line. You so want to look away in horrific denial but It’s almost like you just have to watch so great is the compulsion and magnetism of the scene set before you. The basic premise here is the kidnapping and incarceration of young Harper and the trials and tribulations she has to endure to escape from a nightmare at the sadistic hands of her kidnapper J. She is not the first visitor to J’s basement prison but she’s determined to be his last. Kept in squalor and filth by her Jailor Harper is prepared to do whatever it takes to survive her abominable ordeal. Told from two points of view Harper and her captor this is a dark tale of extraordinary extremities and the resilience of the human spirit and psyche. I also really adored the karmic justice this deviant narrative imparted it left me with a feeling of deep satisfaction and an almost gratification for the fate it eventually delivered to those deserving of such torments and tortures. The only reason I haven’t scored this higher is that I would have myself liked a slightly more drawn-out process with some added closure when it came to the finish here. It seemed to end rather abruptly which I was not a big fan of. But as usual, a fabulously unique endeavour that certainly stand out in its genre. Oh and I should probably mention as well that this is not a romance; nope not at all, if I had to classify it I would say erotic horror is probably the closest term to describe this. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of ” Depredation: A Dark Erotica” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

A nice girl. A nice girl who has recently figured out that nice girls get the shaft. So, I’ve decided that Carly 2.0 needs to be me. Buh-bye Carly 1.0, the doormat.
There’s a problem, though. An alphahole is my new roommate and my boss’s son. And the alphahole is gunning to ruin me.
Alphahole: a grade-A alpha male asshole.
The epitome? Aiden Carmichael.
Aiden wants to give me the shaft. In multiple ways, if you get my drift.
Good thing the new me has decided to fight dirty.
I’m Aiden. Alphahole.
Or so the chick my father put in my corporate apartment and my department at the office calls me. Whatever. She’s got spunk. And a great rack. She tries to come off as a badass, but I see right through the act. If she’s gonna tangle with me, she’ll be the one to get tied up in knots. It won’t be me.
A bad boy, enemies-to-lovers, roommate & office romance.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
OMG, this book I bloody loved it like so much.
Its one of those stories that instantly reaches in a grab you by the throat and you’re unable to shake free until that final curtain. This was such addictive reading; a slow-burn, room-mates and enemy to lovers rollercoaster that took me through such a kaleidoscope of deep emotions; which I felt from the top of my head down to the very tip of my toes. I ran the gauntlet from start to finish; leaving the party with a massive book hangover and still wanting more from these fascinating new characters that have sprung forth from this author’s vast imagination and Alphahole does a fantastic job leaving the stage splendidly set-up for further future developments. As an added incentive I am already emotionally attached to a great deal of the individuals portrayed between these pages and will definitely no question be reading anything else set in this particular world; I mean how could I not. Embarking aboard the aphahole train is an experience in a league all of its own; one you will most certainly enjoy. It’s full of unexpected humour, plenty of action and is also super smoking to boot. Aiden himself, our resident Alpahole/Hot sauce is such a character. Even when he is at his worst you can’t help but be drawn to his cheeky-boy arrogant persona.
He’s one unapologetic Alphahole and a loved watching his metamorphosis from arrogant douche to; well a bit less of a douche as he slowly drinks the cool-aid that is Carly.
I loved that even though Aiden does grow as an individual throughout this story he still manages to stay true to his inborn nature just a much more likeable version of himself that was there all along but was just buried deep; like really needs a shovel deep. Carly/Peaches, I really adored the girl with her ingenious set of new rules for the new an improved Carly 2.0 she had me from the first page.
Who hasn’t been screwed over and taken the mick out of; Carly was being proactive and taking control; this girl was so my hero especially when she stood up to Aiden’s complete bullcrap, calling him out and refusing to be his whipping boy.
This also had a fantastic supporting cast that I really want to learn more about especially Carly’s new friend Ally whos vibe I was really digging. In fact, the whole story here was jam-packed with something for everyone. Not one for slow burns; well I would make an exception here the best bit for me about Alphahole was how the tension was expertly ratcheted up notch by delicious notch; it really was one of the best slow-burn romances I have read and when we eventually arrived at the expected destination well boy it was so worth the anticipated wait.
So Alphahole gets a massive thumbs up from myself, this one turned out to be a real winner that I totally recommend 100%.
Give it a go I really don’t think you will be disappointed. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “Alphahole” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

Lachlan’s Protégé by V.F. Mason
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was really looking forward to “Lachlan’s Protégé”; it had one of those blurbs that was just oh so intriguing and it certainly didn’t disappoint capturing and retaining my interest ever so easily. I didn’t like this quite as much as “Psychopath’s Prey” but have to say it was a very close second indeed. I adored the way this story was told with present time and flashbacks and it certainly managed to keep me on my toes as I was never quite sure of Lachlan’s hidden agenda and what his ultimate end-game was. This author is an expert in misdirection and as usual, managed to weave a dark entangled web that I really enjoyed trying to decipher. I did prefer Lachlan in all his unapologetic depravity than Valencia with all her fresh wholesomeness but that’s mainly because I am more drawn to the dark in all its shades of grey. I really do love me a story that takes a walk on the dark side, managing to keep me off balance with its potential. I really did inhale everything about this deeply decadent story and the only reason I removed half a star here was that I didn’t always feel the connection between Lachlan and Valencia as deeply as I could have. I feel that this may have been due to how much back-story we are given here. No matter I still really enjoyed this. My only other criticism here was the ending I would have prefered maybe a bit more interaction between our Main two characters; I felt that I didn’t quite get given the closure I needed with these two. Saying that the finale was also pure genius didn’t see that one on the horizon. All in all, this was a fab read That I really enjoyed and I am happy to recommend. On a final note just wanted to add that there are some triggers here that may bother some readers; this is at its heart a dark read so don’t expect some sweet vanilla story as this is definitely not what you’re going to receive here. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “Lachlan’s Protégé ” of which I have reviewed voluntary.

Title: The Vow
Author: Natalie Wrye
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 10, 2018
Seven years ago, I gave my vow to a man.
Except it wasn’t a wedding…
Because Brett Jackson was the epitome of anti-marriage–a dirty-talking tattoo artist with a penchant for booze, bimbos and blue-eyed women.
I was none of those.
Guess that’s why he walks into my new apartment with my not-so-nice roommate on his arm…as her new boyfriend.
But this is not seven years ago. I’m over him; I really am.
So why does it bother me so much when he catches me naked in my new place?
Why does his searing stare at my body stay with me?
Why am I wishing for a repeat and wanting to break the most important vow I’ve ever made?
A vow that will break both me and Brett…and turn the Manhattan life I’ve built for myself upside down.
Breathless, my body shaking, I pull back just as our kiss begins to deepen, my lips tender to the touch as I lick them. I look up at the brown-haired Adonis holding me close, inhaling as deep as I can. I let go of a shaky breath. Brett blinks. “What you won’t. What I shouldn’t.” He kisses me chastely, pulling back. “What we need.” He grins. “I couldn’t hold back any longer.” “You make us sound like dogs on a leash.” He snorts on a soft laugh, his stare scanning over my lips. “If anyone’s a dog here, it’s me. But I can’t deny you, Elsie.” He gaze goes back up to mine. “I can’t deny this. I know we made a promise. To never cross this line again. But there’s a reason we’re both here in New York. There’s a reason for right now. To be honest… I don’t know what the hell it really is.” His aqua eyes glow. “But I know I want to explore it.” His voice lowers. “Explore you… If you let me, Elsie. All of this—everything—is up to you.” But I can’t think, let alone move or talk while our bodies are so close. He smells like the rain. Clean and crisp. A fresh, lightly smoky scent, the skin that is pressed against me as is almost as intoxicating as the stare—the one that intensely searches mine, excavating answers, digging deep enough to find only fucking desire, I’m sure. I’m so turned on I can’t speak. My voice is little more than a sigh. I bite my bottom lip, trying to control my tongue. “We can’t throw caution to the wind, Brett. We have Kayla to think about. And even if we didn’t, we have history, too much past. We’ve practically watched each other grow up. Stayed in the same houses.” I scoff out loud, a blush hitting my cheeks that I can feel burn. “For God’s sake, you’ve seen everything. You’ve seen me at my worst.” He chuckles a seductive low sound. “My sexy sweet Elsie. You don’t get it, do you? In my eyes… you have no worst.”
