ARC BOOK REVIEW
“Across My Heart” by Shanna Clayton really hit that sweet spot for me.
It was such an intensely engrossing read that I found such a great fit for the romantic suspense genre.
I found this to be an excellent beginning to an edge of your seat new series that sucked me straight into the action and intrigue from the second I picked this up.
If I’m being really picky here though, I would say this leans more towards the suspenseful than the romantic and this is the main reason I removed half a star in my rating as I would have really liked a bit more romantic interaction between Casper and Mila themselves.
my other bug-bear was Caspers annoying habit of running off.
On the one hand, I did understand how events had shaped his current psyche.
But on the other, I felt like screaming get a grip man and you are really going to leave her unprotected when a killer’s on the loose, especially considering past events sheesh man that’s so cold and a bit of a DUH!! I’m so stupid moment.
Despite the above, this was a fascinating read that relied more on the emotional than the sexual to connect fully with the reader.
This made a lovely change and we get to know both Mila and Casper on a much deeper level than the usual superficial clap-trap.
I would have maybe liked a bit more action in regards to the killer but I get that this being the first book in a new series is a slow-burn.
Building the fire for future books and as such we are stoking the flames adding kindling rather than throwing on the accelerant.
I am so looking forward to seeing where this will go in terms of storyline and can’t wait for Amelia’s sister’s story in the next instalment.
So this is told from dual POV though we get more from actual Mila than Casper.
“Across My Heart” comes with a great supporting cast that really helps to flesh the story out.
And this is one book that I have no issue recommending.
This was a fabulous read that totally delivered.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Across My Heart” of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
